Democrats will participate in the Rally, then visit their legislators from 1 to 2 pm to register their support for Stand for Children’s agenda:
• Increase the Corporate Minimum Tax to reduce cuts in Education and Social Services

Organizing for America

January 18, 2009

At long last, Barack Obama has announced what is going to happen to the grassroots organization he created during the campaign: it’s going to turn into a group called Organizing for America. The main purpose of the organization will be to organize in support of President Obama’s agenda.

The Wilsonville-Sherwood Democrats are the grassroots in our area, so we expect to be the local focus for activities that move President Obama’s agenda forward. We invite you to join us in that effort.

Here’s the video announcement.

Jeff Merkley Coming to Wilsonville!

August 10, 2008

Our U.S. Senate candidate, Jeff Merkley, is visiting Wilsonville.  He’ll be at the Frog Pond Grange on Saturday, August 16th at 3:00 PM.  The Grange is on Stafford Road just north of the intersection with Boeckman Road.

Jeff will be a breath of fresh air in the Senate, after we’ve suffered for eight long years with Gordon Smith.  Jeff has served in the Oregon House for ten years, including the past two years as Speaker.  The Republican-leaning Oregonian remarked that the legislative session under Merkley was the most productive in a generation.  Among other achievements, Jeff delivered a rainy day fund, major ethics reform, and a limit to outrageous pay-day loans.

As our Senator, Jeff will vote to bring our troops home from Iraq within a year.  He’ll also partner with Senator Wyden to get universal health care.  Jeff is pro-family: he strongly supports workers’ rights to organize, and he wants to help working families pay for child care.

Jeff has the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters.  Smith, on the other hand, has a low rating from LCV.  Jeff will support efforts to fight global warming, and he’ll create green jobs in the process.

Gordon Smith votes with George Bush 90% of the time, thus canceling out Senator Wyden’s good votes.  It’s time to put a stop to this nonsense.  Let’s all work hard to elect Jeff Merkley.

See you on Saturday!

Inspiring Speech on Foreign Policy

This is a must-watch video of Obama’s July 15 speech.  He lays out a sensible, inspiring plan for changing our country’s role in the world.

Successful Unite for Change Party

July 6, 2008

We had 32 people show up for our party!  It was a standing-room-only crowd.  After filling up on goodies, we settled down to business.

We heard from Jessica Adamson, who is running for the Oregon House seat here in our House District 26.  Jessica is a very strong candidate.  She knows the issues backwards and forwards, and she has years of experience working with legislators in Salem.  Please help her out by walking with her and introducing her to your neighbors.  See her website for more info.

Next, Charlotte Lehan spoke.  Charlotte is the mayor of Wilsonville and is running for the Clackamas County Commission.  She just barely missed capturing the seat in the primary but is facing a run-off in the fall.   From her years as mayor of fast-growing Wilsonville, Charlotte has a lot of experience in managing growth.   She spoke about the problems surrounding he proposed connector road parallel to I-5.  To help her out, visit her web site.

Brian Andersen and James Richards from the Obama campaign spoke about how the campaign is going and encouraged us to get involved.  Brian is an Obama fellow from Montana and is here in Oregon for six weeks to help build a volunteer base for the fall election.  James will be here through the election.  Click here for more info.
